Janice's Hand-dyed Fabrics
The beauty of hand-dyed fabrics is in the wonderful variation in textures and
tones with no two pieces being exactly alike. All our fabrics are 100%
cotton. We use fiber reactive dyes. Unless stated otherwise, they
are 44" wide.

Orchid Oasis
Fabric. 1-1/4 yard of hand dyed orange for the orchid appliqué and 1-3/4 yard of
hand dyed deep blue for the background. This is enough fabric to complete the top of the Orchid
Oasis quilt (similar to the one you see here) and bind the quilt with the
dark blue fabric.

Sea
Turtles & Dolphins
Fabric. 1-3/4 yard of deep blue for the appliqué and 1-3/4 yard of
lighter blue for the background. This is enough fabric to complete the top of the
Sea Turtles & Dolphins quilt (similar to the one you see here) and bind the quilt with
either fabric, and have a bit left over. Price: $77.00

Fabric. 1-1/2 yard of silversword gray and 1-1/2 yard of
earthen red. This is enough fabric to complete the top of the
Silversword quilt (similar to the one you see here) and bind the quilt in either color, with some left

orders generally require an
e-mail. Describe,
as best you can what you have in mind. You can't be picky, though.
Half the fun is the adventure of the unexpected! Price generally
will be $22.00 per yard, unless you have something outrageous in mind...then
we'll negotiate! Any quantities...one yard on up.
Wide width fabrics are also available for wholecloth quilts or Hawaiian
quilts. If you can imagine it...we'll try to produce it!
We will try to accommodate special orders in 1-2 weeks, but depending upon
what you are looking for, it could be 3-6 weeks.

Ready to special order?
We do recommend that you test the fabrics for colorfastness in your water.
After being dyed, we rinse the fabrics in water temperature between 125
& 140 degrees with Synthrapol. However, one of the things every dyer and
the dyeing
books talk about is the different ways the dyes respond in different waters
(different chemicals, minerals, etc.). Nancy has been our test of dye
stability--she can get just about any commercially dyed fabric to run in her
water (when they don't in Janice's water), and yet Nancy has had few problems with
these dyed fabrics. That is not a guarantee. As every quilter knows,
some commercial fabrics bleed and run, others do not. You are likely to have similar
experiences with any hand-dyed fabrics. Be safe. TEST.
If you do experience problems try two things.
- Use cold water.
- Wash with Synthrapol a time or two, following the instructions on the
bottle.
